Nails!

I didn't think I'd ever write a post about nails but it is a good indication of the state of our lives today.

Gum Making

We bought s this kit as a birthday present and are finally getting around to doing it.

They both enjoyed doing this and it was great fun.

The old hood

There are times when I miss the old neighborhood. I took this when I got to work a little before daylight.

g's school project

I came home to this tonight. Before I left for work, I told g to think of a few ideas that she wants to do for her project. Her project was on how animals help humans and vice versa. She came up with the list on her own. Pretty cool sentences, g.  Now, we should work on spelling.

g bday

it's been 5 years

How the years have flown?
The baby is now a little lady.
A smart-alecky, funny half-pint
small in stature,
big in personality.
Happy Birthday, my mini.

s commentary - in the bathroom

Noticing that s had been sitting for a bit, G asked if she was ok.

s replied, "this is one tough little guy."

On the way to Manila (2009)

It struck me that it has been almost 2 years since this photo and very little has changed about little s. She is still wearing that same shirt, has about the same hairdo (of course, with tinsel but that's another blog post) and the same smile. I can't believe that she is about to turn 5.

Margaritaville

The setup:

It was a quiet afternoon. I was seated on the couch, plucking at the computer. The kids were both in the bathroom, taking care of their respective businesses.

When suddenly a soft voice started singing, "wasting away again at Margaritaville. looking for my soda o salt"

Yes, my kids are up on their Jimmy Buffett.

Capoeira demo!

The kids have started to take capoeira. They are really starting to get it. g is more natural since she has had a few years of dance and is just a better student.

s tries her best but from all reports, she seems to be better at causing a commotion than actually doing any capoeira.

Try harder next time, little s.

not to take for granted

Last week, I heard little light footsteps walk through the hallway. G worked the night shift and is heavily asleep. I heard the sink turn on a few seconds later. Two little voice whispering.

Then swishing, spitting and silence.

Footsteps went back into their room. A few more minutes, I finally got up to check.

g & s have prepped themselves for the day. Teeth brushed, faces washed and fully dressed.

I found them sitting quietly on the couch, waiting for breakfast.

This moment makes me realize how fast they are growing. I can't take this time for granted.

Summer 2010

I am beginning to associate painted faces with summer fun.

g, my budding artist

I am really proud of all the things g creates. I realized that I haven't shared many of them recently. So here you go.

The diorama was her idea. The straw on the butterfly is to simulate movement. She told her dad to cut a slit on the top so that she can slide the butterfly from side.

Seldom heard in a bathroom

s, in a particularly gleeful mood, one morning exclaimed quite loudly as she exited the bathroom, "it smells DELICIOUS in here."

Butterflies

s and I were cuddled in bed this morning. We both didn't want to get up. It was cold. The sky was dark and it was warm under the covers. s started to talk about the butterfly decals in her room.

She pointed to the largest one and said that it was the jie-jie one (big sister). The smaller blue one was hers. Then she pointed to one of the smaller ones and said that it was the the mommy one. Finding it quite odd that the mommy one was substantially smaller than the other butterflies, I asked her why she thought the mommy one should be the smallest.

She then said without missing a beat that the mommy one was small because she had to be in Flaw-dah (Florida). She was really far away and that's why she is small.

This makes me want to cry.

Curry night at the C's

After a morning celebrating Mother Earth, the Family C decided to do curry night for dinner. What's curry night without a pile of naan? This batch turn out really well.

Here's g with a dal curry naan pizza.

s in her aunt jemima outfit. I did spring cleaning today and found this outfit. Not sure where it came from but s loves that auntie j kerchief.

Wacky moments at dinner time.

heard on the homefront

Another "funny" s moment (in quotes because I am not sure if it is funny or just plain scary):

Her nanny was putting her down for her nap. I guess she must have been resisting. So the nanny said, "I am going to count to 5. You better go to sleep." s responded, "I am going to count to 10. You better get out of here."

I guess you would need to have a smart mouth when you are a dishwasher.

heard on the homefront

This is from daddy:

Over lunch we asked s what she wanted to be when she grew up.
She told us she wanted to be a dishwasher!

++++++++++

I guess I can reduce her college savings plan.
